  • Founded on the same premise stated by Robert F. Kennedy, who said:

“There are those who look at things the way they are, and ask why…I dream of things that never were, and ask why not.”


SAGE believes that the creativity and energy of youth are an untapped resource in shaping their own futures. SAGE asks, “Why not provide an avenue to help youth create better futures? Why not help them see that they can truly change the world?” SAGE inspires youth to do believe that they can contribute their knowledge, skills and energy to enhance their local and multinational communities.

  • SAGE’s global logo is green, and is represented by two hands interlocked in a handshake superimposed across the globe. The logo is green to represent Mother Earth, which provides the scarce, natural resources that all human beings must use wisely. The shaking hands represent friendship, peace and goodwill to all people, and is meant to show how socially-responsible businesses and social entrepreneurs can work together to build global networks to improve the financial, human, and social conditions in their own communities.


Origin of the Name

  • Named by a group of six Chico State students and Curt DeBerg at an afternoon meeting at the home of two of the students, Charles Brooks and Jeff Leh. After hours of brainstorming, all agreed that the primary audience for the program  should be high school STUDENTS, under the mentorship from college STUDENTS. Unanimity was reached that the main goal of the high school student teams is to create, launch and operate business and social ventures; thus, ENTREPRENEURSHIP was the most important goal. The scope was quickly determined to be international, and hence the GLOBAL component. Finally, Bob Zinke said, “Aren’t we really all about students for the advancement of global entrepreneurship, who are guided and mentored by older students and wise members of the community?” Voila.


Around the World

  • Established programs in 21 countries and supports the work of approximately 1,200 SAGE junior and secondary high schools
  • Employs ZERO staff in each country; all staff are VOLUNTEERS in the purest sense of the word


Legal and Financial Status

  • SAGEGLOBAL is a charitable corporation in the State of California; its 501c3 tax status was obtained in 2007
  • SAGE USA is registered as a tax-exempt 501c3 not-for-profit organization the state of New York
  • SAGE Global’s home office is in Roseville, CA
  • All SAGE programs are financed by individuals, foundations and business entrepreneurs from around the world. SAGE, to date, has not accepted funding from government entities.
